ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JUDY PERKINS

"Books have the capacity to enrich and change our lives for the better!"

J. Perkins

Hello!
Judy Perkins Tasmania Best Selling Childrens Author Top Ten.png
I'm Judy.

I'm a retired Primary School and Early Childhood Education teacher and have taught many, many students over a 42-year teaching career. One of the most enjoyable facets of teaching was sharing quality children's literature with my students. This inspired me to one day write my own book. Hmmm ... one day! Well, that day has arrived and here it is...Diplo's Dilemma.

I adored working alongside my students; but sadly, I also witnessed some challenging behaviour.  Bullying was part of that challenge. Unfortunately, it still is today! Cyberbullying is on the increase, with opportunities for unpleasant engagement on a variety of media platforms.

So, I combined my passion for writing with my experience of teaching, and produced a book that I hope young children will find to be engaging and fun. In my experience as a teacher, I became aware that young children are fascinated with dinosaurs - and so, dinosaurs naturally became my characters.

More importantly, I hope that Diplo's Dilemma provokes discussion around the topic of bullying. Let's discuss it early so that our children will learn skills to recognize it and prepare themselves for ways of dealing with it.

Award Winning Children's Author & Education Writer

This book is a real gem. It is beautifully illustrated and well written in rhyming verse. The illustrations perfectly depict the story and are bright, colourful and fun. Most kids love dinosaurs so it will appeal to any young dino fan, but the story is also about bullying and would be perfect as a discussion starter about bullying, both at home and at school. As a former primary school teacher, I highly recommend Diplo's Dilemma. You won't be disappointed.

My 6 year old enjoyed 'Diplo's Dilemma' - her favourite characters were Diplo & Terry. She also enjoyed spotting all the high frequency words & the rhyme.

We have our own 'Sara Tops' at my daughters school who causes much distress in the playground. This would be a suitable story for my daughter's teacher to read to the class to introduce bullies unacceptable behaviour & it's impact on others.

We all need to encourage our children to be kind so this book will help a lot! Illustrations are amazing too.

Highly recommended!

Diplo’s Dilemma is a delightful, delicious and didactic children’s book with a powerful
message about bullying by first time author Judy Perkins. The text is populated by well-
drawn and colourful characters whose life like animation immediately engage and draw ourempathy. Illustrator Courtney Huddleston has created a charming Flintstonian landscape which has a 3 D immersive quality as the characters move fluidly from page to page carried along by dialogue and Perkin’s gentle and illuminative prose. Diplo’s Dilemma and the
assortment of its likeable characters are an ideal classroom teaching tool, or a gentle read to the grand kids, and even bigger ones! Bullying is not OK and Perkins finds a way for us allto get along. A dinosaur fairy-tale with a bedrock message and a happy ending. It ticks all the boxes for me.
